Project Highlights

Roadway improvements included enhanced pedestrian features, bicyclist lanes and ADA improvements to current standards

State Road 50, also known as Cheney Highway, runs across the center of Florida through Orlando. For this project, the T2 team provided roadway improvements including pedestrian features, bicyclists lanes, and ADA improvements to current standards. The project involved milling and resurfacing 3.5 miles of four-lane urban highway. The existing roadway is a four-lane divided highway through an urban area with pedestrian traffic and sidewalks along both sides of the roadway.

Access management median improvements were included to improve safety.

In addition, the T2 team provided signing and pavement markings to remove the on-street parking and provide bicycle lanes along both sides of the roadway. The project included upgrading existing sidewalk and curb ramps for compliance with ADA requirements.

Other activities included utility coordination for 11 utilities located along the project corridor. A public information meeting was conducted during design for stakeholders to review and comment on the proposed project design.
